Are You Getting Enough Sleep to Avoid Headaches?

There are a few things that the human body needs in order to make sure that it is as healthy as possible.  We need to make sure that we are eating the proper foods and keeping our body nourished.  Exercise is also something that is beneficial for the human body and can help to balance it from the inside out. 

Something else that the body needs is plenty of rest and an adequate amount of sleep every night.  If you are not getting the sleep that you need, this maybe the trigger for your headaches.

The unfortunate reality is – we see this with many of our clients – that many of us are not getting enough sleep every night.  We may feel that we can easily get by with six hours of sleep every night but in reality, the average human needs about eight hours of sleep every single night. 

If you suffer headaches, it is so important you make sure that you take the steps necessary to ensure you have a good night sleep.

The most important part about getting enough sleep is preparation before bed. A good preparation will ensure a good night’s sleep. You may be thinking, why do I need to prepare for bed, don’t I just go lie down when I want to sleep.  Many of us lie in bed, tossing and turning for perhaps an hour or more before we fall asleep and even then, we may not ever reach the deep sleep that we really need.  That is why it is important for you to take a little bit of time before you hit the sack and actually get yourself ready for the best sleep of your life.  How is this done?

One of the best things that you can do is to avoid anything that is going to keep you up. 

This would include avoiding such things as drinking caffeinated drinks in the late afternoon or evening, watching television shows that excite the mind or going over anything that is too deep, such as bills or other frustrations. A little thing that has made a huge difference to me I not to check my emails in the evening. All it takes is one bad email to ruin your night and your sleep. The email can wait till morning.

For some people it helps to take melatonin about 30 minutes before you go to sleep at night, as this will help you to get the deep sleep that you need in order to wake refreshed in the morning.  But please always read the label or consult your health professional to make sure melatonin is right for you.

If you are able to successfully sleep better at night, you may find your headaches decrease or stop all together.
